I’m Megan Kirk, professional Irish dancer, and Pilates and fitness instructor based in Los Angeles, CA. I have a passion for Irish dance, and have spent my life learning how to educate dancers on fitness and injury prevention.
As a competitive Irish dancer in the Western US Region of CLRG, I competed at the Regional, National, and World Championship level. Throughout this time, I suffered many common Irish dance injuries, and my frustrations with time out for rehab and post-rehab lead to research, and a decision that I needed to educate myself, and other Irish dancers.
I began my journey with a BS degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Exercise Science. Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, and Sports Psychology aided in my own dancing, as I learned not only how to physically train the body for optimal performance, but how to time nutrients, and train my mind how to best perform in Irish dance.
While attending university, I began touring in 2009, and have since toured, performing as lead female and troupe throughout North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. In searching for ways to stay fit on the road, I discovered Pilates. I found it to be the perfect fit for cross-training in Irish dance. Not only is Pilates concentrated on the core, balance, and stamina, mind-body connection, and so much more. Through Pilates, dancers can really improve the way they dance.
I finished my comprehensive Pilates education in 2014, becoming certified on Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, and Wunda Chair repertoire. Since then, I have focused on continuing education to keep my clients at the top of their game.
Irish Dance Fit is what I have wanted to do since high school — educate Irish dancers in fitness, injury prevention. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and ideas with Irish dancers worldwide!
